Water is an elixir to humans. Everyone knows how important water is for the overall functioning of our body. Our body is majorly made up of water. We lose water every day from our body through perspiration, urine, breath; and this lost water needs to be replaced by having a lot of water in the entire day. Drinking an adequate amount of water is very important as it aids in digestion, excretion, circulation, and absorption. Drinking water is very good for skin as well for it to function at its best. Water is life! And hence it is a need to survive. There are many benefits of water but I am going to focus mainly on the benefits of water to our body.

BENEFITS OF WATER:
  1. Helps in Creating Saliva: Saliva helps in digesting our food and helps to keep our nose, mouth, eyes, and skin hydrated. Keeping the body hydrated with water reduces friction and helps in the proper functioning of organs. Having unsweetened water also keeps the mouth clean and prevents tooth decay. Not having enough water leads to dry skin, scaly scalp, itchy throat, and dry eyes.
  2. Regulates Body Temperature: When the body temperature heats up, water stored in the middle level of the skin comes to the surface of the skin in the form of sweat. This cools down the body. The individual is not able to tolerate the heat strain if the water is not consumed enough to keep the body hydrated. 
  3. Aids in Digestion: Having enough water helps in digesting food. A well-hydrated body produces more gastric acids which break down the food and fibers easily. This, in turn, leads to better bowel movement. Having a lot of water flushes out all the harmful toxins easily and doesn’t burden the kidneys and liver. Dehydration can cause severe conditions like constipation, heartburns and stomach ulcers.
  4. Prevents Constipation: Like it is already said that having less water can lead to loss of gastric acid, which is very important for digesting the food. Having enough water causes more gastric acids which break down the food and soluble fibers. The water also keeps the intestines soft and moist. If water is not consumed, the intestines will not push out the stool, making the stool drier. This condition may also tear up the delicate tissues in the anus causing fissures and severe constipation. 
  5. Helps in Excreting waste through perspiration, urine, and defecation: By having enough water the body is able to flush out harmful toxins through perspiration or urine and stool.
  6. Helps in Protecting Joints, Spinal Cord and Tissues: Dehydration can affect the joints, spinal cord, tissues, and brain structure and functioning. Cartilage, which is found in the joints and spine, has more than 80% water. If not having enough water for a long time, the shock-absorbing ability of the joints and spine will get affected leading to early joint pain.
  7. Helps in Losing weight: Having a lot of water also helps in losing that extra weight if consumed before eating. This boosts up the metabolism making you lose more weight. The trick is to have at least 1-2 glasses of water before every meal. This creates a feeling of fullness and prevents you from overeating.
  8. It Improves Blood Oxygen Circulation: Tiredness and laziness are the two symptoms that you are dehydrated. Blood is more than 90% of water, which carries oxygen to different parts of the body. Dehydration affects your energy levels making you tired and cranky all the time. It also affects the blood circulation and makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to different parts of the body. 
  9. Helps in Boosting Energy: Drinking water is very important for the body as it improves immunity. A strong immune system is very important to keep all the infections at bay.
  10. Prevents Bad Breath: This is the basic importance of water to the body. Dehydration can cause dry mouth. If saliva is not produced the toxins and bacteria will stay in the mouth and will not be flushed out. This causes bad breath. By drinking enough water helps in washing away the leftover food particles in the mouth and thus prevents bad breath. 
  11. Helps to boost the health and beauty of the skin: Your skin is the largest organ of the body, yet, the last one to get hydration. Dehydration can cause dryness of skin and premature skin aging. Dull and dry skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation are the early signs of aging. Having an adequate amount of water helps the skin to be moisturized, supple, healthy and free from wrinkles. 
  12. Helps in boosting memory and concentration: Our brain is made up of 73% of water and drinking it helps us to combat problems like depression, headache, brain fatigue, loss of focus and memory. Dehydration also affects your mood, makes you more sensitive to pain, and affects your motor skills and memory. So, next time when you feel low on energy or loss in concentration just grab a glass of water instead of a cup of coffee.
  13. Prevents the health of your Nails: Water is the best and the cheapest beauty product available in the world naturally. If you are not getting enough, it just shows on your skin or on the body. Dehydration affects nails too making them hard, brittle and rough with peeling cuticles.
  14. Benefits your Hair: If you are willing to grow long and healthy hair, start having a lot of water. Because water is very critical for cell growth and detoxification.

    1. Thank you Akanksha. There are numerous benefits of water, these are just some of them. It's really sad that our planet is falling short of drinking water due to continuous pollution and rain water. That time is not far where we will be paying for our monthly water supply bill.

  4. Drinking 2-3 litres of water is really important, if not water atleast some other source like coconut water, juices, fruits etc.

    1. Yes Dimple at least 3 ltrs water is compulsory. But if you add artificial sweetners to water, you will increase the sugar intake, which is again very bad for skin as it increases skin inflammation. It's better to have it plain or just add fruits or vegetable to water to make detox water. Or, even lemon slices are great option to add in drinking water.
